HTWW Unit - Energy
During our Energy Unit we explored the concept of different forms of energy, how energy is transfers and energy waves. We conducted many experiments and discovered some very interesting things.
WWAPT Unit - Migration
During this unit we explored the central idea: Migration is a response to risks, challenges and opportunities. We brainstormed all the reasons people might have for migrating. We then diamond ranked them in groups, which was really challenging. We looked at a timeline of the U.A.E and the world and discussed how major events could have influenced people 's decisions to migrate (push and pull factors). As a grade, we took action and raised money at the Grade 3 Market Day, we brought in shoe boxes to full with necessities to give to migrant workers that help us build the U.A.E.

Kayaking in the Mangroves
On Monday, 10th November we went on a field trip to the Mangroves. To learn about erosion and what role it plays in the Mangroves. We spent the morning working on our teamwork and cooperation skills as we had to kayak out in the open water in pairs, learning about what a mangrove is, the tree and it's root structure and what role it plays in the water and Abu Dhabi. Then we conducted some experiments and learnt about how the root system of the mangroves help protect the sand from eroding away.
Erosion Experiments
Last week we performed a couple of experiments to help us understand erosion. We investigated the effects of rain/water on the sand and discovered that water carries the sand away with it and deposits in other places. Next we pretended to be wind, by blowing air through a straw and found that the sand blew all over the place. Lastly, we were given the open-ended task of creating our own 'erosion', some of us created a sea with waves and watched the sand around the edges disappear. Others created a river and watched the water carve away the banks of the river as it ran down.
Math: Battleships Game
In the Unit: Sharing the Planet, we have been learning about coordinates in Math. to help us read maps. This is so that we can look in atlases. To help us practice we played a good tactical game of battleships.

Helping Grade 1
The Grade 1's came up to Grade 4 to see what is alike and different between the two grades. We had to help them fill in their Venn diagrams. We had to be good communicators, as their English writing is not so strong, so we had to help them with their spelling and letters. This was also a good test of our patience:)
